About the Client: Sri Vasavi Educational Society
Project: Nurture International School.
Location of the Project: Bypass Road, Chikmagalur.
Land Area: 3 Acres
Total Built-up Area Planned: 7000 Sq.Mtr
About the Project: Nurture International School is located at a picturesque location in Chikmagalur, Karnataka, the land of coffee. The school has 360 degree view of the Ghats surrounding Chikmagalur.
After careful considerations of the topography and the scenic beauty of the site, Besten designed ‘V’ shaped building with staggered class room orientation to provide 240 degree view of the Ghats surrounding Chikmagalur from each class room.
The state-of-the-art facilities include flexible, multi-use spaces loaded with new technology.
An open interior design enables end to end visibility from any location creating ‘passive surveillance’ and improving community consciousness.
The shape and orientation of the building is very efficient in terms of space and land usage. The shape of the building combined with its orientation and careful selection of natural ventilation system increases the flow of natural fresh air, reduces seasonal heating and direct sun impact.
Through careful orientation of the joineries, the building uses natural light and air for most of the day through the academic period.
Toilet pods with modular partitions are provided to ensure that the toilets can only be used by one individual at a time.
Amongst the many sustainable features, the school is provided with rain water harvesting system and sewage treatment system which does not use any power or chemicals and with minimal maintenance. The treated water is used for gardening.
The first phase of the building was completed in a challenging 120 Days from the date of ground breaking. When all phases are completed, the school will have the capacity to accommodate 1600 students.
